MOR products

Posted in eco-friendly, packaging design, product design on May 14th, 2010 by Joa – Be the first to comment

MOR….they have some awesome packaging designers! the product itself (skincare/beauty, etc.) is not bad either. MOR is based in austrailia so it’s not cheap. for example, $44 for the bamboo cased body lotion. you can easily purchase from anthropologie.

not sure about the seafoamy green color….but the design fits in with the line (wood cap, mix of aztec/indian design)

pangea organics – skincare

Posted in eco-friendly, graphic design, health, packaging design, product design on April 15th, 2010 by Joa – Be the first to comment

woohoo! my order from pangea organics came in today! i’ve heard about pangea organics for a while. i first saw their beautifully packaged products at anthropologie a while back. i ran out of moisturizer so thought i’d give this brand a try. they’re all organic and eco-friendly which is a plus (chemicals make my skin itchy!).

bought one facial cream/moisturizer, got 3 free samples, yay!
the bottle is a nice recycled glass – feels like more refined sea glass or something. i like it!

what a fresh, cute idea! i’m not a big tea drinker but this is so charming i might just buy it for its novelty…except i dont think this “product” has come to fruition – i believe it’s just a concept right now.

go here to find out more.

japanese washi tape / masking tape

Posted in graphic design, other japanese things..., packaging design, paper, product design on January 22nd, 2010 by Joa – 4 Comments

these deco tapes have been my obsession for the last few months. i’ve always liked them from afar since a couple years ago when i saw a small set for sale at kinokuniya in seattle. after the holidays, the adoration exploded. MT tape brand is the front-runner but “Happy Tape” is a close second with trendy clean designs and seemingly good quality.

i recently used a pretty gray tape to help enhance christmas packages. my family loved it :) yay. it’s a subtle addition to packaging but it makes a difference to me. i know i know, “who wants to pay that much for tape??” but good scotch tape ain’t that cheap either ($2.00/roll on average), so why not get prettier tape for a few more cents! haha :)

check it out……
you can go to these vendors to purchase:

HERE studio koizumi (japan)

HERE origami san (japan)

HERE pretty tape (japan)

HERE happy tape (US vendor I believe)

you can also visit your local japanese goods store (like Kinokuniya)…they usually carry nicely packaged MT tape sets of deco tape for about $6 -$14.

cool! new spin on ketchup packets. i wonder though if a tiny bit of color would be better? maybe that is distracting or confusing though. it is afterall, a simple condiment that’s being packaged :P

Posted in graphic design, product design on February 4th, 2009 by Joa – Be the first to comment

ORLA KIELY NOW HAS A LINE OUT AT TARGET!!!!! I hope Marimekko will do the same one day?? These two designers are great in my eyes but less accessible.

i have loved orla kiely and marimekko ever since  they hit the scene in the united states…i love orla kiely’s whimsical designs, fresh luggage and bag line, and now target is launching and have launched part of her home decor collection.

i am going to go check it out ASAP! <3

eco-friendly designs – ciclus

Posted in eco-friendly, graphic design, jewelry, product design on December 19th, 2008 by Joa – Be the first to comment

wow….ciclus, the design firm, is pretty neat. they take mostly recycled, eco-friendly, or “waste” materials and turn them into various items like lamps, jewelry, bags, mats, etc. below are some of my favorites:

using used corks to make a pot holder.
“table mat bakus”
table-mat-bakus

wine/champagne box turned into table lamp.
“table lamp cavalliuam”
table-lamp-cavallium2

table-lamp-cavallium3

3-in-1 silver earrings.
“ohptions modular earrings”
mod-earrings

ciclus philosophy: “…Ecodesign projects not only save resources but they make the production process profitable. At Ciclus, materials are always selected for their sustainability, taking into account their practicality, durability and elegance…”

fred and friends party cups

fredandfriends3fredandfriends

these are really clever! i first saw these at fireworks a while back. fireworks is only in seattle and oregon i believe. but you can get these cups from the fred and friends website.
they have animal nose ones for extra fun too. these would be great additions to any party or gathering. granted, you can afford to get lots of these cups! i’m thinking people will want to take these home with them…shoot, i’d take as many as i could!
